I elevate brands, products and services.
Through human, empathic design, I take brands, products and services to new heights across brand, product, illustration, marketing and motion.
I believe designing thoughtful, approachable things leaves a long-lasting impression on people, and I design with this careful intent.

What I craft
User Interfaces. Product Design. Brand + Identity. Websites. Illustration + Visuals. Motion. Other pretty things, too.
You can view a curated set of some of my projects and works here, sorted by type. You can also filter directly in the top left hand corner, though it's better to see it all together here.
Some work is under NDA or available upon request. Drop me an email at jack@meerkatjack.com and I'll be happy to share what I can. Happy to chat! I mainly live in Figma, Illustrator and After Effects.
Product Design
Product Design is where I can get the opportunity to express my deep appreciation for humanity, nature and the earth.
I ground my user interfaces in human environments, considering tactility and vitality - how does each material and context feel, how should they differ, and where can colour and iconography lift things up.
Reimagining transport experiences
New + Updated
Personal Project
Believing in a more connected, intuitive experience is a key principle behind my design vision for public transport.
I wanted to dive into the disconnected UK transport system and pull things together into a unified design system for cycling, riding the Tube or Buses, National Rail and using your Oyster Card.
One place for all your transport.

Spatial system for TfL
New
Commercial Project
Working with TfL, we imagined the future of public transport and, in particular, the future of the station.
Working with a small team of designers, we came up with a radical new system for navigation and exploration.
The Spatial System was a new way to navigate the station, guided by ambient computing in the background, that directed you using sounds, and visuals.

Designed with accessibility in mind, but with a focus on everyone, I built an interactive prototype of our experience, with our own sounds, dot animation system and NFC.

RetailBox  — Sharing Great Places with the world
Commercial Project
Redesigning a beloved product from the ground up with a whole new direction, took a great amount of reinvention and consideration.
RetailBox began as a tool for small technology retail stores to display looping screen savers on their demo devices, and was a hit.
When COVID took over the world, we were forced to reinvent ourselves, celebrating the world's best places in a beautiful new app.

Meditea  — More human meditation
Personal Project
I set out to create simpler, less clinical interfaces for wellness and meditation to help in times of stress.
As a daily user of Headspace and the Mindfulness app on Apple Watch, I had first-hand experience navigating interfaces built for mindfulness, and felt there was a lack of humanity in the feel of the interfaces.
Harsh colours, lots of layers of content categorisation and clinical sharp edges were the precedent, and I set out to find another way of supporting meditation.

The Generic Travel App  — Going places
Personal Project
I've long believed that bringing together the convoluted systems of travel into a unified experience is a huge ambition of mine.
This project investigated new ways of providing navigation options to users, buying tickets with clear step-by-step modality, live alerts on real-time train and bus arrivals, and a more tailored experience with illustrations specifically designed for your type of train, bus, plane or car.
I felt going places could be a lot more fun, and a lot better designed. You'll see some of the things I learnt in this project translate in more recent work.

Bounce Back  — Reimagining Recovery
New
Commercial Project
Recovery is an essential part of feeling good, fighting illness, stepping up your fitness and eating and sleeping better.
Working with the Bounce Back team, I stripped things back and really focused on the core goal of the company - to help people recover.
I reimagined this through beautiful new illustrations, a clean, light new Shopify site and with refinements to the visual language across the company.
This project will be available to view soon.

Brand
+ Ads
Branding, advertising and marketing give me opportunities to carve out new identities, or uplift existing ones, through a fresh approach.
I love spending time getting to know how brands work, understanding their image and resources, competitors and their values and goals.
Taking the time to really get a feel for a brand before you start visualising the future has been invaluable to me - it's always been worth taking longer and asking more questions to drive out the real intentionality in what I make.
Vizulize — Transformed Brand Store
Commercial Project
We started this project with very few assets and little to go off, to support us. This meant I largely started from scratch, and had to really start to carve out a clearer visual identity for EM Pharma's Vizulize.
Vizulize and VizRx eye drops are the industry leaders, with natural ingredients and huge experience as an established player.
I focused on bringing out the relieving feeling of taking the product, coupled with the vibrancy of nature, where all the ingredients are derived from.

No.1 Botanicals — Brand + Ads
Commercial Project
No.1 Botanicals took the world by a storm with its unique Rosemary Water offering back in 2017, and in the years following, launched a variety of new flavours.
I was asked to help develop the visuals for the brand, across Brand Store, marketing materials and advertising to better reflect the growing range of new options in the range.
Focusing on the distinct natural colours of the herbs and ingredients, I introduced new infusions of colour, text dominance and playful gradients and repetition to drive dynamism.

Nudie Snacks — As playful as the product
Commercial Project
Nudie Snacks prides itself in using wonky vegetables and focusing on natural ingredients. This powerful proposition lended itself beautifully to ripping up the conventional clean playbook, and to doing things differently.
Focusing on really bringing out the flavour and ingredients in every product, I visually created, sliced up and then threw the ingredients, giving a real sense of dynamism and irregularity to the branding, that felt appropriate.

RetailBox — The World Travel Pass
Commercial Project
Designing the identity for a travel pass for the world, while preserving RetailBox's signature look and feel was a challenge and required consideration at every level.
Focusing on the benefits of the UI redesign, I really brought out and celebrated the elegant new design, fast loading times, new Library feature, Dark Mode and more.
I wanted to create a visual connection across the product, branding, website and marketing that celebrated the world's places, with content front and centre everywhere.

Illustration + Visuals
Designing illustrations, graphics and visuals are a real opportunity for me to express character. I really like to figure out both the tone of voice, and look and feel, of whatever it is I'm designing, and then the dream of where it could be.
I think it's part of my job to visualise the future aspirations of a product or idea, just as much as its current format. I'm celebrating a vision, and I spend a great deal of care and craft in conveying this to the consumer in the right way.
I'm not afraid to abstract, cut away from concreteness, or to oversimplify. It's only as I start to take things away that I really land on what needs to be there, and what would be far more delightful than what's there now.

Play
As important as it is for me to work commercially on product, brand, identity, motion, illustration or any of the other mediums I work with, I feel it's equally important to just play.
I take a lot of reference from nature and the natural environments I see every day, and I think this is fairly apparent in what I create, personally and for work. I went through a real duck loving phase last year, and you can see a few of the birds here.
These are a few little illustrations and designs I've made for fun that I wanted to share, though I have hundreds more.
